JUST ARRIVED:

Personality Crisis – Creatures for Awhile LP (War on Music) $13
“The original 1983 release, available again on LP after being out print for years! For those of you who were three when this album was released, now is your chance to see what the fuss was about. Personality Crisis exploded from Western Canada in the early eighties, determined to blow the hardcore scene wide open. Armed with two raging guitars, a distinctive baritone vocalist, and a killer rhythm section, they did exactly that. Although they released just one album, twenty-five years later, those who witnessed them perform speak in hushed tones about the legendary band that was so unwilling to fit the mold.”

Hank IV – Refuge in Genre LP (Siltbreeze) $19.75
“A decidedly meaner, sharper, and more pummeling affair than their critically acclaimed debut, Hank IV’s second album, Refuge in Genre, sports eleven songs in 30 scorched-earth minutes. No visit to the lo-fi or "shit-gaze" Quonset huts this, Refuge in Genre was recorded in shattering hi-fidelity by Tim Green (The Fucking Champs) and mastered by Bob Weston (Shellac). The rollicking San Francisco quintet has been in the crosshairs of the Siltbreeze hunting rifle since just after the release of their debut LP, Third Person Shooter, was (Hook or Crook, 2006). Attempts to release their Dirty Poncho 7-inch were squashed (the honor went to Plastic Idol) so Siltbreeze did what any jilted paramour would: decided to get even. The sound of Hank IV is a bit too wily and scrambled to pigeonhole as any one type of honk. Forward thinkers might tag ’em as panic-skiffle, combining the cunning and menace of compadres such as Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments or Country Teasers, with a dual guitar attack that nods toward the Bailey / Kuepper-era Saints as much as those dudes looked at Smith / Kramer for their nascent moves. Through all this stutter and pummel, vocalist Bob McDonald (formerly of Denver hardcore icons Bum Kon) doesn’t throw caution to the wind so much as atomize it. If a shattered leg can’t keep this herc from heralding the apocalypse, do you think your tender widdle ears have a chance? Not likely, bub. San Francisco quintet Hank IV has no relation whatsoever to the Hank Williams clan. Their hard-charging and visceral dual-guitar rock punk has been likened to "Crime meets Viletones meets Styrenes punk" (ZGun Magazine) and by WFMU’s DJ Terre T as "a sick combination of Volcano Suns and Blue Cheer and Chain Gang!" Third Person Shooter was called "one of 2006’s top punk albums" by Maximum Rockandroll, "Best of 2006" by Terminal Boredom, #2 album of 2006 by WFMU DJ Evan Funk Davies, and the #8 album of 2006 by Terre T. The band has played twice at SXSW, including 2008 for the WFMU 50th anniversary showcase, and performed at Gonerfest IV in Memphis in 2007.”

The Kettle Black - Was Wollen Sie Mehr CD-R (Capital Punishment) $9.50
The Kettle Black/ Ship Shapes 7” (Capital Punishment) $6
“The Kettle Black is a really impressive one man band art-punk-folk unit. The songs are refreshingly honest and meaningful. Reminds me of Nomeansno meets a modern day Woody Guthrie.” Divorce

The Weirdos – Destroy all Music LP (Bomp) $17
“The Weirdos were in many ways the greatest of L.A.'s punk bands. In early 1977 their mighty sound and singular style were the big-bang igniting the L.A. punk rock scene, as they proclaimed "we're not punks, we're weirdos from Hollyweird!". This wasn't just goofy sloganeering, this was a stance intended to distinguish them from the burgeoning punk rock scenes in New York and London. The Weirdos were not only bringing a new sound and writing teen punks anthems, they were also responsible for their graphics (posters, covers, flyers) and designed their own clothes! Their 1977 Bomp single "Destroy All Music" was a nihilistic anthem, and is now regarded as a classic, and by the time they made their mini-LP two years later they had turned into a powerful, polished band, without losing any of their outrageous attitude.”

NOISM - ± CD (Crucial Blast) $10
“The first real release from the Japanese glitch/shred duo Noism, following their appearance on the Relapse compilation Drummachinegun and a series of demos. Formed by guitarist Yoshiro Hamazaki and programmer Tomoyuki Akiyama in 1999 in Tokyo, Noism focuses on ridiculously complex and spastic death/grind instrumentals using programmed drums that are cut up and spliced back together into impossible rhythms, a million brain-melting riffs and dissonant shredding, all of which is chopped up and processed into abstract death blasts that defy physics. This twelve-song, twenty-one minute disc features a unique, glitched-out chop shop of Planet Mu-style beats delivered at truly meth'd levels of chaos fused with sweeping technical death metal. Insane. Highly recommended for fans of extreme, way-out avant-guitar spazz and absurdly technical deathgrind.”

Scott Hull – Audiofilm 1 3” CD (Crucial Blast) $6
“Scott Hull is already well known in the grind/metal underground for his devestating riffage in Pig Destroyer and Agoraphobic Nosebleed; outside of extreme metal, however, Scott has also worked on dark, sumptuous soundscapes and ambient film scores at his Visceralsound lair that have just recently began to appear in recorded form over the past few years. Scott's Requiem CD that came out through Relapse Records earlier this year was one of the first official releases of his film score/soundscape work, and was widely embraced by fans of bleak cinematic ambience and chilling electronic sound sculpture. Crucial Blast is following that amazing disc with a series of limited-edition 3" CDs that each feature a short, 10+ minute piece of fearsome dark ambient music from Scott that showcase his skill at blending blackend Lustmordian drift with terrifying mixing techniques that clot the mind's eye with unnerving, nightmarish sound events.

This first part of the Audiofilm Series is a terrifying fug of demonic drone that utilizes delirious stereo panning and slabs of obsidian ambience, and it slowly unfolds over the length of the piece to reveal layers of malevolent black drone and unsettling voices seemingly lost between planes of shadow. Audiofilm I plays out like a wildly hallucinogenic horror film score, and anyone into Scott's previous ambient/soundscape work will find this to be one of his darkest pieces yet. The disc is limited to a single pressing of 1,000 copies, packaged in a tiny 4" x 4" glossy gatefold jacket with stunning full color artwork from artist Seldon Hunt. Recommended to enthusiasts of the isolationist terror of Painkiller’s Execution Ground ambient disc, Lustmord, and Scorn. “

Cray – Kinamets CD-R (Snapped in Half) $7
“Cray is Ross Healy of Melbourne Australia, Ross has been making electronic music under various monikers since the early 90's for labels in Australia, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Ireland and the U.S. This is his second full length CD after 7 years in hiding. During that time Ross had sold everything he owned and moved to the country to get back to basics. Kinamets is NOT a drone record and is more in the form of early academic synthesizer recordings, it was recorded live on a EMS Synthi AKS .”

Total System Point Never - Power In That Which Compels You CD-R (Snapped in Half) $7
“Total System Point Never is Daniel Lopatin of Oneohtrix Point Never / Astronaut / Infinity Window on polyphonic synthesizers and Vinnie Paternostro of Total System Failure and Sonic Suicide Squad on tenor sax. This disc sounds like John Zorn getting fucked up by Tangerine Dream, somewhere between free jazz skronk and future retro synth. This release represents the rebirth of snapped in half, the future is now.”

Tragedy – S/T LP (Skuld – Germany) $16

Black Lips – S/T LP (Bomp) $17

Statues - Same Bodies, Same Faces 7” (Deranged) $6
“The first DERANGED offering from Sudbury’s STATUES, but not the last. For those unaware, this trio has already released two excellent albums and is currently working on a third for later 2008. In the interim, these 4 tracks will need to hold those craving another album’s worth of STATUES’ infectious power punk. Same bodies, same faces features 3 new exclusive originals and a GG Allin cover of ‘Dead or Alive’. Here is the MRR review of their 2nd album -Wow, a welcome new dsicovery for me. Mining the same updated pop-punk/power-pop/mod-punk vein as SMALLTOWN or current faves (and co-Canucks) TRANZMITORS, with the hint of a less snotty BRIEFS and a literary JAWBREAKER-esque quality to the lyrics. Great stuff, recorded well and with great catchy choruses. Sounds authentic but not retro.”

Windy & Carl - Songs For The Broken Hearted 2LP (Kranky) $20
“Most everyone has experienced love as well as heartbreak. The 10 songs that form the new Windy & Carl album are interpretations of those emotions that run the gamut from pain, anger and longing, to warmth, admiration and joy. Started in early 2007 and finished in the spring of 2008 in the midst of some sudden inspiration, these songs are some of the best Windy & Carl have to offer, and a new mark in their always developing sound. The opening track addresses the denial of trouble at home, while the title of La Douleur (the war, named after the Marguarite Duras book) is self explanatory. The touching words of My Love, a song about the renewal of faith and hope, flows on to the genuine sentiment of Forever. The title of the closing track notes the idea that no matter how near or far two lovers are, they still exist on the same plane. This fall, Windy & Carl will have been together for 19 years. And in these sounds you get a sense of what love encompasses, how there can be bliss in any oasis, and trouble in any paradise, the highs and the lows, the reality of time and depth of emotion that go into any relationship that has lasted so long. Long time fans will hear similarities to earlier works, but anyone who listens to Songs For The Broken Hearted will no doubt find emotions they can respond to and identify with. A collection of love songs, whether it be a presentation of love gone wrong or new love in full bloom, the album is an expression of timeless emotion and universal feeling. We have all known love in our lives, and we have all known loss. This is an album that encompasses both and shares those feelings with the world.”

Nimrod Workman - I Want to Go Where Things Are Beautiful LP (Drag City) $19
“Nimrod Workman (born Martin County, Kentucky, 1895) was a coal miner, a union activist, and a gifted singer. After a slipped disc and black lung forced his retirement from the mines of Mingo County, West Virginia, where he had worked for 42 years, he became a sought-after performer and raconteur. Loquacious and mischievous, with the energy and intensity of a man half his age, he appeared on records, in films (Harlan County U.S.A. and Coal Miner’s Daughter), across the folk festival circuit, and as a guest on The Tonight Show. In 1982, folklorist and musician Mike Seeger visited Nimrod at his home in Mascot, Tennessee, and with the support of an NEA Folk Arts grant, made nearly 18 hours of recordings of Workman’s songs and stories. While those sessions provided the most extensive coverage of Nimrod’s talent ever made, they went unissued. Come the late 1980s, Nimrod was in too poor of health to keep up his touring schedule, and he died at the age of 99 in 1994. I Want To Go Where Things Are Beautiful draws on Seeger’s 1982 recordings of Nimrod Workman and gives the man his first LP release in 30 years, as well as his first ever solo CD release. It showcases Workman’s huge repertoire of songs humorous and melancholy, sacred and sinful; it ranges from the old British ballads of "Barbara Allen" and "Lord Daniel" to Nimrod’s own topical material, inspired by his experience as a miner and a card-carrying member of the UMWA. It’s a long overdue portrait of a unique performer much loved and revered, but too often overlooked.”

Baby Shakes – The First One LP (Douchemaster) $17
“Since the Spring of 2006, New York’s BABY SHAKES have released two singles and one ten-inch. All of which are now out of print. Each new record proved much better than the one before, and now Douchemaster Records lays it all out there in the form of A full-length LP. This record contains ten songs with licks as good as the looks. The Baby Shakes haven’t parted with the pop sensibility that was the backbone of their previous releases, but they have shed some of the cuteness in order to incorporate a more mature songwriting style. The Nikki Corvette charm has given way a bit to infuse the style of Suzi Quatro and the tempo of Slade. This album also features the consistently vintage production and drumming from Carbonas and Gentleman Jesse member Dave Rahn.”

Buzzer – Disco Kiddz 7" (Douchemaster) $6.50
“This proto punk three-piece features dudes from The Impediments behind Andy Jordan of The Cuts and The Time Flys. Buzzer’s debut three-song single generates the same mid 70’s adoration as Jordan’s previous projects sans the sleaziness of the Flys and the drug induced euphoria into which The Cuts would often drift. The marching snare on Disco Kiddz makes you wanna get real high and play flag football with your not-to-particularly-tough friends. “Cool Feeling” is essentially a glam popper, but the other two tracks sorta remind me of early Pere Ubu with Verlaine on vocals.”

Perfect Fits – Radio Transmitter 7" (Douchemaster) $6.50
“Scott Rogers and Co. bring you two more tracks of Memphis style Pop. If you’ve managed to score a copy of the Contaminated single then you know these boys got home run hooks. We like them because they keep their tunes tastefully rough around the edges. Members of Dutchmasters, Final Solutions, Rat Traps. etc. File this one under PUBubblegum!”

Gentleman Jesse – Introducing Gentleman Jesse LP (Douchemaster) $17
“The wait is over, ladies and gentlemen. Douchemaster Records is overwhelmed with excitement to offer the debut self-titled album from Gentleman Jesse and His Men. This album features thirteen tracks of pop perfection with slick and warm production that only Dave Rahn can achieve. If you even kind of liked the "I Don't Wanna Know" single, this record is essential for you.”

Pisschrist - Victims of Faith LP $16
“Relentless onslaught of high octane raw punk from the new masters of the style. Sounds more legit than a lot of bands from Sweden, you know I wouldn't say that unless I meant it. If you are into really raw hardcore punk in the Discharge/Anti Cimex tradition you aren't going to be let down by this record.”

Naked Raygun - Throb Throb Gold LP (Haunted Town) $20
“The 1984 Chicago punk classic back on wax! Naked Raygun's debut LP and one of the greatest punk albums of all time. 'Nuff said. - All original tracks re-mastered and sounding better than ever on vinyl. Featuring as bonus track is the unreleased original forward version of the :30 track "On", called (you guessed it) "No". Incl. two-sided 12x18 full color poster with unreleased Steve Koress photos & lyrics. Limited edition hand #d 140g color wax...550 oxblood - 800 gold.”

Pedestrian Deposit – Fatale CD (Hanson) $10
“Well it's about FUCKING TIME!! Finally this stellar work from Jon Borges' PEDESTRIAN DEPOSIT is released! Meticulously edited Harsh Electronic Noise. Ultra spastic and cut up sound w/ passages of truly DISMAL piano, tape manipulations and drones. I am proud to have co-released this w/ Prurient's HOSPITAL PRODUCTIONS.” Hanson

Wolf Eyes with John Wiese – Collection CD (Hanson) $10
“This CD is a collection of the WOLF EYES w/ JOHN WIESE 7-inch and two CD-R's originally released in very limited editions on AMERICAN TAPES in 2003-04. Digitally re-mastered by Wiese this year, and finally available all together! Also features original artwork for all releases in FULL COLOR! (originals were black photocopies on colored paper).” Hanson

Eleven : Eleven – Chapbook by Liz Work (Trainwreck Press) $5
“Liz Worth writes about her nightmares. She also writes about punk rock, makes zines, and obsesses over the words of Daniel Jones. She recently completed the forthcoming oral history Treat Me Like Dirt, which documents the beginnings of the Toronto punk scene. It made her realize she does not want to live in the future.

Work by Liz Worth has previously appeared in the anthology Strong Words: Year Two, as well as in Exclaim!, Broken Pencil, The Toronto Star, Punk Planet, Eye Weekly, Clamor, Spacing, Fish Piss, The Sentimentalist, H Magazine, and This Magazine.”

Sir Richard Bishop – Polytheistic Fragments CD (Drag City) $17
“Is Sir Richard Bishop (SUN CITY GIRLS) just another virtuoso or something more powerful, like a magus or sorcerer? It’s hard to tell through the mystic fields that his playing always conjures--but we can hear enough in our somnolence to tell that he is a lord of guitar among the many greats, and that his first Drag City release, POLYTHEISTIC FRAGMENTS, gathers the glittering slivers of his sound into a divine procession. It goes without saying that POLYTHEISTIC FRAGMENTS is an instrumental release--who among us would want it otherwise? In the tradition of his classic debut, SALVADOR KALI, this new record features equal amounts of improvisation and composition. Sir Richard’s powers lie in his ability to captivate with just the sound of his guitar, but he doesn’t completely abandon studio processes, which allow POLYTHEISTIC FRAGMENTS to communicate a greater wholeness: all Sir Rick, all the time, if you will. In a record with so many spirits, Bishop fills in the space where necessary and rounds out the feeling with catchy tunes such as “Elysium Number Five” and “Ecstasies in the Open Air.” POLYTHEISTIC FRAGMENTS shows that the divinely inspired Sir Richard Bishop cannot be contained in one form.”

Christina Carter – Original Darkness (Kranky) $16
“Christina Carter has a gift. In a world where most people shy away from the truth, from honesty in emotion, Christina has the strength to address those feelings head on through her music. Within the songs of Original Darkness, she confronts loneliness, self doubt, inadequacy and desire. She bares these emotions in a sometimes tender, sometimes forceful, sometimes pleading voice, a voice in which you can hear her vulnerability, her trepidation. Christina's words, and the mournful sound of them, stirs a melancholy that is supported and framed by her gently plucked guitar notes, notes that echo the sadness in the world she sings of, as well as the words she sings. These 10 new songs are effective at painting pictures, exposing the underbelly of what we all really think but most will not say, of what we all really feel but push away. With the addition of gentle bells and occasional keyboards, Christina reminds us of what it means to be honestly human.”

Dead C – The Secret Earth CD (Ba Da Bing) SOLD OUT
“The elegance of howling guitar noise was fully realized when The Dead C appeared. For over twenty years now, the trio has continually redefined what rock music is and can sound like, and have inspired Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo, Wolf Eyes, and Comets On Fire, not to mention the current fertile underground noise scene. The Dead C is the ultimate blues band. But rather than departing from the heartfelt singing of the African-American South, they express the tenants of alienation in society with unrelenting force-a focused soundtrack to accompany Knut Hamsun novels, Samuel Beckett plays, and Ingmar Bergman films. Michael Morley's monotonic vocal moan anchors the inherent isolation of our modern world--nothing is more earnest, nothing sounds so lost. Along the axis of The Dead C's recordings, Secret Earth sounds like it was created between Eusa Kills and Harsh '70s Reality. It contains a straightforward (for them) expression of sound, while continually pushing their vast improvisational techniques into a realm of subconscious genius. To coincide with this release, the band will be playing rare, select shows around the US in mid-October. They have not been to the east coast in over a decade, and will be visiting some places they've never been (cheers, Seattle).”

Deerhunter – Microcastle 2CD (Kranky) $16

Contains bonus disc of a second album recorded a couple months after Microcastle. LP will include bonus CD. “Here it is, the highly anticipated follow-up to 2007's Cryptograms album which launched the band into the stratosphere of hype. Whether or not that was or is deserved is entirely subjective. Microcastle was recorded over the course of a week at Rare Book Studios in Brooklyn, New York with Nicolas Verhes in April of this year. The album was recorded as a four-piece consisting of Bradford Cox, Lockett Pundt, Joshua Fauver, and Moses Archuleta. "Saved by Old Times" features a vocal collage by Cole Alexander of the Black Lips, and the album also features two songs with lead vocals by guitarist Lockett Pundt, "Agoraphobia," and "Neither of Us, Uncertainly".”

Jandek – Ready For the House LP (Corwood) SOLD OUT
“The 1978 release of Corwood Industries #0739, "Ready For the House", began one of the most compelling, disturbed, and singular legacies in musical history. In the 30 years since this unique debut, Jandek has released 53 albums of mournful, atonal music that continues to defy classification and accessibility. And while the past three decades of intense productivity have yielded a depth of discussion, a handful of legendary live performances and even a film documentary, no amount of time or experience can prepare a listener for the experience of "Ready For the House." Beyond stark, beyond oblique, beyond outsider even, the first Jandek LP (originally credited to The Units) explores musical territories no one even knew existed, with just a hollowed-out voice and a lonely, detuned guitar. In 1985 it had infamously sold less than ten of the 1000 copies originally pressed, however by 1999, when it was issued on CD, the vinyl had completely disappeared, with original copies changing hands for hundreds of dollars. This exact repress on Corwood Industries, vinyl edition is the first time "Ready For the House" has been unavailable on vinyl for nearly 20 years, finally giving collectors and fans the opportunity to own one of the most peculiar, solitary, and strangely magnetic records of all time.”

Last Pogo – The The Last Pogo: Toronto Punk Rock 1978 DVD $14
“On December 1st, 1978 Toronto concert promoters Gary Topp and Gary Cormier presented “the Last Pogo, a rollicking, riotous concert at the venerable Horseshoe Tavern. On the bill were seminal bands from Toronto’s punk rock scene: The Scenics, the Cardboard Brains, The Secrets, the Mods, the Ugly, the Viletones and Teenage Head. During the concert the frenetic energy of 500+ thrashing fans in the club boiled over and a near riot ensued. Filmmaker Colin Brunton was there with a film crew to capture it all, from the irreverent punk musicians and the slam-dancing audiences to the police who tried to stop the show and the firefighters called into escort people from the premises. Besides the 26 min feature documentary this DVD also includes a 30 minute set from the Scenics from a TV studio (circa 1978) and the documentary with commentary by the Viletones Chris Haight.”

Pack A.D. – The Funeral Mixtape LP (Mint) $17
“Now in on vinyl! Complete with download coupon. "Funeral Mixtape arrives hot on the heels of The Pack A.D.'s Mint Records debut Tintype. Recorded live off the floor to analog tape at The Hive Studios, Funeral Mixtape encapsulates the intensity and warmth of The Pack A.D.'s songwriting. Recorded at the Hive Studios to analog tape by Jesse Gander Funeral Mixtape captures the power of Becky Black's vocals at their best (heard on tracks such as the New Orleans death march "Oh Be Joyful"). How can a duo generate such a massive sound? Becky Black's vocals have been compared to Janis Joplin (and Tracy Chapman), and the combined duo's live show to long established acts like The Black Keys. All comparisons aside The Pack A.D. exhibits an ability to present the sound and vision of the blues in their own way: brooding, explosive, and unrestrained."

Tyvek – Summer Burns 2 7” (What's Your Rupture) $15
“New to the What's Your Rupture family, Tyvek - Kevin (guitar/vox), Heath (guitar), Larry (bass/the law), and Matt (drums) - hail from Detroit, MI; you can probably hear it in the music. Tyvek's songs are a product of trying to understand their city: the empty spaces, poisoned ground, burnt-out building shells. In spite of all that, Tyvek love the land, the city, the infrastructure, and the sound... the sound of turning it up and then having your friends turn it up too, until you're all wired into some cheap frequencies and feeling some real buzz in the air. The Tyvek Sound: Alienated nowness banged out for love and bro-dom and drinks. Think half the Monks, half the Electric Eels, playing Half Japanese's gear. TRACKLISTING: 1. Needles Drop 2. Frustration Rock 3. Give It Up 4. Air Conditioner"

Vivian Girls – S/T LP (In The Red) SOLD OUT
“As recounted in songs by Comet Gain and Walker Kong, the "Vivian Girls" are the seven sisters who feature in Henry Darger's posthumously published fantasy epic, The Story of the Vivian Girls, in What Is Known as the Realms of the Unreal, of the Glandeco-Angelinnian War Storm, Caused by the Child Slave Rebellion. Tribute has also been paid by everyone from poet John Ashberry to Sufjan Stevens, ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, Camper Van Beethoven, Fucked Up, the Residents' Snakefinger, and ex-Maniac Natalie Merchant--and now by Brooklyn noise-pop band the Vivian Girls. With their debut 7-inch on their very own Plays With Dolls Records already sending out waves of panic and adoration to the outer limits of the underground pop contingent, the Girls have become the newest breakout sirens of the New York loft-pop brigade. Within seconds of hearing their seductive three-part vocal harmonies lushly interwoven with chest-pounding waves of beautiful feedback, it's obvious that their songs are hard to resist, especially if you find yourself keen on the mid-'80s noise pop trifecta of The Jesus & Mary Chain, The Vaselines, and the Shop Assistants. The Vivian Girls' self-titled debut album appeared recently on Mauled By Tigers Records in a vinyl-only edition of 500 which sold out before the band had completed their recent three-week US tour. In The Red now proudly presents the re-release of this essential pop platter in both vinyl and compact disc formats. Swirling noise topped with sweetly angelic vocals is practically a can't-miss concoction, so expect your fruity neighbors and your attention-starved friends to chime in with unabashed praise when you spin this record.”

Gown – Wandering Glory LP (Ecstatic Yod) $8
LTD ED OF 500! Screenprinted jackets by VG kids w/ insert. "Wandering glory is a portrait of change of seasons, change of location & the movement of time. Recorded mostly on the 3rd floor while brothers visited, tours began, tours ended & bags were packed. Life is full of flaws & learning is as neverending as time" -Gown

Endless Blockade – Primitive LP (20 Buck Spin) $13
“Details about band formations and ex-members of so-and-so are unimportant. What matters is that The Endless Blockade is a band from Toronto that plays Power-Violence. Taking the foundations of the genre’s forebears (Crossed Out, No Comment, MITB, etc) and streamlining it for today’s harsh realities, The Endless Blockade is furious hardcore meets crawling sludge. "Primitive" is the Blockade’s second LP, following the debut LP "Turn Illness Into A Weapon", several EPs and split LPs with Iron Lung, Warzone Womyn and Hatred Surge. "Primitive" is the band’s most fully realized work thus far, with great care taken in tying the album together musically, visually and lyrically. Scott Hull’s mix is both clear and raw while Glyn Smyth’s artwork visually represents the doomsday cults, fanatics and radicals that provide the backdrop for the LP’s deranged pace and surgically precise twists and turns. The Blockade’s affinity for the diseased power-electronics and noise genres (think Slogun, Whitehouse) also plays a more significant role on "Primitive".”

Ghost House – Depatures CD (Reluctant) $12.5
Ghost House – Depatures LP (Reluctant) $9

“Like all good exhilarating endeavors, Ghost House began in the spirit of co-operation... a meeting of the minds between members of two longtime rival bands, Operation Makeout and The WPP. From the Operation Makeout side of the tracks came the vocals, keyboard, and Hive recording maven, Jesse Gander (who also supplied a lion's share of the songwriting). At his side, the stella guitar and backing vocals of the talented Katie Lapi. Joining forces with them are The WPP's rhythm section... a one-two punch consisting of Steve Matheson on bass and backing vocals (aka the jab to the solar plexus) and Allen Boyle on drums and guitar (the uppercut that starts from the tip of your toes). In addition to these preeminent performers, a veritable who's who of kids from the neighborhood added their talents to the project... including Shannon Wood (gogostop) on various vocal duties, Marissa Johnson (The Seams) with some backup vocals, Laura Lee Schultz (New Years Resolution, Skinjobs, Queasy) on guitar and backing vocals and finally, Jesse's old buddy from his d.b.s. Days, Andy Dixon (Secret Mommy, Red Light Sting) It's fun, unpretentious, lets-play-in-the-basement-and-everybody-can dance- on-the-linoleum-in-their-socks type music. ... perhaps someone should go and peek in the windows as there's obviously something kind of scary going on there... scary good.”

Varge – Must Lunge 2LP (Reluctant) $18.75
Varge – Must Lunge CD (Reluctant) $9.00

Nobody said uniting a country would be easy. It’s a good thing for Canada, Sudbury’s Varge! are on the job. In championing a bilingual method, they have created an indie rock hybrid that runs on the sweet sounds of cultural coexistence. “Must Lunge”, Varge!’s debut release on Edmonton’s Reluctant Recordings, is a 12 track riot that will leave you battered and bruised. Walls of carefully crafted noise crash down one after another carrying words that speak of individual philosophies built on personal experience. The album flows with each track conjuring a different mood or feeling as the vocals transition seamlessly between languages. While at times abrasive and harsh, they balance those rougher characteristics with flowing melodies and subtle acoustic interludes.

With constantly changing rhythms and time signatures, “Must Lunge” is definitely not for the faint of heart. And if you’ve had the chance to watch Antoine (vocals & guitar), Mitch (vocals & bass) and Jeff (vocals & drum kit) perform you can begin to understand that the frantic nature of their music stems from an ingrained need to be in constant motion. “Must Lunge” is essentially a manifesto imploring action and who can argue with that?

For too long, French and English have been separated by borders and governments creating a societal rift in our great country. But those times are in the past and its time to heed the message these bilingual pioneers. Open your ears Canada, Varge! want to play you a song.”

Mattress Heavy Duty LP (Reluctant) $12.50
Mattress Heavy Duty CD (Reluctant) $9.00“We, Reluctant Recordings present your guide to the end of the apocalypse with brand new patron saint Mattress (from Portland) and a gold-flaked, limited-edition, hand-numbered, magic load o’ 300-ish electro cactus pedal gospel ambush Heavy Duty about running out of food and the kids catching on fire. Each song also carries an extremely complex secret message, which if ever deciphered, reveals the ultra-difficult answer to the secret of the special thing. Bask in the glory of the word and feel his hands upon your chest, it’s probably the foretelling. Disrobe, you have been selected and will now go forward. Go now. Trust us.”

The Doers – Gaiety CD (Reluctant) $9.00
The Doers – Gaiety LP (Reluctant) $12.50

“Throughout their storied five-year career, The Doers have gained as many fans as they have detractors. As Vancouver’s premier acoustic party-punk band, many have come to love their stomping, ADD-addled songs and monotone/shouted vocal delivery, while an equal number skip their very frequent live appearances to indulge in a smoke. Fortunately, this reviewer falls in the former category and finds their new album a joy. On Gaiety, the group has stripped down to a trio, but still maintain their Minutemen, Violent Femmes and spastic Sloan influences, minus the female harmonies of former member Sarah Jane. “As All Get Out” opens the 19-song album on an agitated high note, as singer-guitarist Sean Maxey (now known as Don L’Orange) delivers the lyrics in a non-stop stream. From here, vocal duties are split equally amongst Don/Sean and bassist Berr. Highlights include the relatively mellow anti-authority song “Hell No, Po Po,” the stabbing guitars and fiery delivery of “Art for $” and “United + Wrong,” the classic indie-rock of “So it is” and Berr’s decidedly unpretentious “The Good Liver (Pt. 1).” The Doers are at their best when they keep it short and energetic, and some slower songs like “Quality Products at Affordable Prices” and “Party’s in the Kitchen” do drag a bit. Still, this is another fun summer record from a band that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and even the haters should find something to enjoy.” FFWD

Whitey Houston – Eponymous LP (Reluctant) $12.50
“Born of hinterland depression, a mutual love of texas hold'em and audiophile discontent, Whitey came to pass in 1999. The indie-rock approach of earlier efforts were quickly drowned out by the stereophonic roar of the bass guitar and the increasingly pugilistic trap stylings of GRAVY: THE CARDIAC KID. He was once heard to say "I don't play the drums, I hit thedrums." And crush those drums he did (and still does).

The slow songs were being SHITCANNED for faster ones which were in-turn not fast enough so those were SHITCANNED for even faster ones. It was pure, feral rock and roll complete with the right mix of swagger, humour, and arm windmilling. Fueled by vinyl loyalist sensibilities, the new sound pulled from diverse influences, from the garage soul of The Pretty Things and The Sonics to the arena rock pomp of Thin Lizzy, early AC-DC and Motorhead. Obscure 60's R&B screamers, '77 punk and English metal, all were absorbed into the mix that would produce Whitey Houston's particular brand of frenzied rock 'n roll.

After four years of relative sloth and prior musical commitments taking precedence, they came out swinging in '05 with their debut Eponymous full length LP. 14 songs in total including 2 vinyl only bonus tracks. LP comes in limited edition, screen-printed, gate-fold cover on 'gravy' or 'gold' vinyl.”

Shearing Pinx / Stamina Mantis Split 7” (Reluctant) $5.50
“Pretend like it’s your mom’s second wedding and your new dad takes you aside to tell you that he wants you at the honeymoon because of SHEARING PINX/STAMINA MANTIS. Delicately-crafted relentlessness and precision smashing take on neon squawking with the big stack on this showdown arena 7” docu-drama to explain everything to you about all kinds of different infections. Trust us—Whether you’re bleaching out the blood on not your sheets or trading in some stuff that you found on a construction site, it’s the emotional scars that will last, and you can’t put a cream on those.”

Husband & Knife – An End LP with download code (Divorce) $13
“KC Spidle plays unplugged music but there’s a rock’n’roller in him waiting to get out. Many of the songs on An End, his second album under pseudonym Husband & Knife, are built on bluesy guitar hooks, not chords. The sleazy riff on “Rushin” would be at home on a Led Zeppelin record were it not played on an acoustic. “Drug Poet,” with its palm-muted guitar line and slurred spoken-word vocals, feels positively debauched. Despite this rock’n’roll edge, not one drum sound can be heard on An End, which Spidle recorded on a laptop during a spell of unemployment. It’s his aggressive guitar playing that makes the record a different proposition than those from many solo singer-songwriters. Sure, Spidle’s songs share concerns, such as alcoholism and joblessness, with his contemporaries yet on up-tempo highlights such as “The Sea” and “Headless Army,” he proves that self-analytical songwriters don’t always make self-indulgent records.” Exclaim!

Bonnie 'Prince' Billy – Lie Down in the Light LP (Drag City) $18
“Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy is letting the sun shine in so you can Lie Down In The Light. A brand-new twelve-song album of excellent new songs and sounds, okay? Get that thong back up your crack and listen! Bristling with guitar strings and laced with harmonies, this is the brightest album to date from the Bonnie ‘Prince.’ Brisk tempos skip among his signature slower numbers and ballads. Bonny’s vocals are among his most expressive: carefully nuanced, singing all up and down his range, showing him at a judiciously dynamic and tuneful apex. Coloring the sound is a subtle backdrop of percussive slaps and shakes (but nary a drumkit), touches of keys and steel, delicate harmony-vocal arrangements and other sweet surprises that might send some sad-sack fans back to their auto-erotic dungeons, fresh toys in hand. Fatures Bonny repeat players Paul Oldham and Emmett Kelly and also benefits from the multi-instrumental presence of Shahzad Izmaily, who works percussion, piano, guitar, banjo and the mysterious, sensual "row of wenches" — I mean, mysterious, sensual “row of wrenches.” New (duet) partner Ashley Webber (of Pink Mountaintops! Sister of Black Mountain’s Amber Webber!) forges her own presence next to Bonnie in a pair of fantastic turns. Additionally, some of Nashville’s finest appear in between the band‘s strings and harrows, adding light (and yeah, we see a little darkness too) wherever they appear. But moreover, Lie Down In The Light is driven by those ever-searching songs of Bonny, which demand a variety of performances, and get ‘em too. The gamesome nature of the sound is not at all at odds with his lyrical cornerstones of contemplation and scrutiny; instead the fusion invites listeners to consider the life plight in a lithe and forgiving manner that may not occur to our younger, former (future) selves. The light that shines from this revelation is one we’ll gladly lie down in and serve evermore. What about you, bitch?”

Gun Club – The Las Vegas Story LP (Sympathy) $12.50
“Although Jeffrey would reform and re-ignite The Gun Club up until his death, this release from 1984 marked the end of the original era. Kid Congo Powers was back on guitar after serving time with The Cramps and Rob Ritter who left to join 45 Grave was replaced by Patricia Morrison on bass. Including peculiar choices for covers by Pharoah Sanders and Gershwin, Las Vegas Story begins with a Bo Diddley drum beat and continues through a pastiche of styles and storylines that encapsulate the warped ideals of middle America. Digitally re-mastered. Limited edition yellow vinyl.”

Songs: Ohia – Didn't It Rain LP (Secretly Canadian) $13
“Holy smokes, the sixth full length for Jason Molina and co, each one selling more than the last (at least around here). Recorded live with no overdubs to nice effect. More accessible than Ghost Tropic, which hasn’t stopped moving here so I’m guessing you’re all going to need to get twice as many copies.”

Manikins – The Crocodiles LP (Full Breach Kicks) $14
“As the saying goes, there must be something in the water that has so many great bands coming from Sweden these days, and The Manikins should be the hottest band of them all. Instead, these garage punks have been flying low and steady under the rock 'n' roll radar, cranking out a batch of singles and three albums that blew the ripped-up jeans off everyone who heard them. That is definitely not enough people! The Manikins are Jocke on vocals and guitar, Kalle on guitar, Max on bass, and Tommie on drums. Crocodiles is the band's forth album, but it's their first album to see a U.S. release. Anyone who has hunted down previous Manikins records knows a U.S. album is long overdue, which is why Full Breach Kicks is very excited to rock with The Manikins! They are sometimes compared to The Marked Men, The Kidnappers, The Devil Dogs, or The Hives, but new songs like "I Want My Baby Dead", "Losin' Streak", and "Crocodiles" bring the band to greater and catchier punk rock heights. The band's signature jagged guitars with '70s punk roots and sing-along vocals mixing garage punk and power pop will have any rock 'n' roll fan shaking their hips and pogoing around. Get your Manikins groove on now! The vinyl LP comes with an exclusive download of the entire album.”

Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band – Born Into Trouble As The Sparks Fly Upwards Double 10” (Constellation) $20
“Second album and take a look at that expanded name to go along with their new six piece line up featuring added cello, second violin and second guitar. Fans will certainly not be disappointed with these eight tracks (nearly an hour in length) of sorrowful “neo-classical dirges”. Typically swank Constellation packaging, gatefold sleeves for both formats. This street date is strict strict strict, so let’s play fair, don’t break it.”

Amebix – Arise LP (Alternative Tentacles) SOLD OUT

Black Flag – Damaged LP (SST) $12.50

Melt-Banana – Bambi's Dilemma LP (A-zap) $13.50

Robert Pollard – Superman Was A Rocker LP (Happy Jack Rock) $13.50

DD/MM/YYYY – 777 7” (Out of Touch) $5

Dustheads - Little Pieces LP (Don Giovanni) $14
“Dark and heavy hardcore from Brooklyn, for fans of Suicide File and Black Flag. Recorded by Chris "Gobo" Pierce. The feel bad record of the year!”

Sparks - Introducing Sparks CD (Lil Beethoven) $16
“Incredible & overlooked, this was one of my favorite nights I attended of the Sparks retrospective. “Originally released in 1977, is the seventh album by Sparks & the only one of their 20 long-players not available on CD, until now. Finally, you can hear the much-discussed but rarely heard transitional album from Ron & Russell Mael's near-40-year career. David Bowie wasn't the only chameleonic figure in '70s rock. Introducing Sparks finds the Mael brothers, in the company of an array of top session musicians , caught between the innovative glam-prog-pop of their four early-to-mid-'70s Island albums (Kimono My House, Propaganda, Indiscreet, Big Beat) & the audacious proto-electro of their 1979 collaboration with Giorgio Moroder (No. 1 in Heaven). No expense was spared when it came to the recording, allowing or perhaps encouraging Ron & Russell to engage the cream of LA's backing singers & session guns for hire. Just as the front & back cover of the album presents our heroes as faux matinee idols, all soft-focus & airbrushed perfection, so Introducing Sparks has a polished, slick, sophisticated, big-budget sound that reflects the record company's desire to get the Maels' music on the radio. Heard today, Introducing Sparks sounds less like made-for-heavy-rotation AOR & more like a comment on, or rather series of pastiches of (all right, then: acerbic attacks on) daytime US radio-fodder: imagine Randy Newman as program controller in charge of America's airwaves for some idea of this satirical yet highly commercial meta-rock.”

Amebix - No Sanctuary LP+7” (Alternative Tentacles) $16
“In the wake of Crass, the UK birthed a large scene of anarcho-punk bands such as Subhumans, Rudimentary Peni, Flux Of Pink Indians, and, perhaps the best known of all, Amebix. Their seminal Arise album, originally released by Alternative Tentacles in 1985, remains one of the genre's ultimate statements, featuring elements of Black Sabbath, Motorhead, and Venom infused with a healthy dose of early punk's gutter grime and Crass' confrontational imagery. Amebix became an archetype for the scene, an inspiration to hundreds of bands worldwide including Sepultura (who even had their own album called Arise) and Neurosis, among others. Prior to Arise, Amebix released their early material on Flux Of Pink Indians' Spiderleg imprint. These recordings came in extremely limited runs, and were bootlegged to death in the ensuing years, while the original master tapes languished in lockdown at Southern Studios. The band finally got their tapes back nearly 25 years later, and now the songs are collected officially for the first time. No Sanctuary: The Spiderleg Recordings gathers the sought-after cult releases No Sanctuary, Who's The Enemy, and Winter. Some of these tunes--such as "Winter" and "No Gods, No Masters"--are undisputed classics in the punk world. Carefully remastered by Jello Biafra and George Horn, these long-worshipped and revered recordings are finally available again from Alternative Tentacles on both CD (in digipak with booklet) and LP with bonus 7-inch. Tons of original artwork was resurrected into a beautifully designed package by long-time Alternative Tentacles collaborator and UK native John Yates.”

Sonic Youth + Mats Gustafsson & Merzbow - Andre Sider Af Sonic Youth CD (SYR) $12
“This installment of Sonic Youth's series of experimental & mostly instrumental releases is available in a CD-only edition on the band's own SYR label. Andre Sider af Sonic Youth presents the complete "Other Sides of Sonic Youth" improvised live performance from the 2005 Roskilde Festival in Denmark, featuring Sonic Youth (with Jim O'Rourke) & guests Swedish saxophonist Mats Gustafsson & Japanese sound artist Masami Akita (a.k.a. Merzbow). The single piece performed was a structured improvisation which for 60 minutes added & subtracted musicians one by one until only Akita was left onstage. Black Sabbath followed.”

Mutators - Secret Life LP (Nominal) $16
“Mutators lie at the heart of Vancouver's resurrection, spreading the word via multiple North American tours and a variety of releases. Now Secret Life captures them at their most effective and exacting. This set of 13 tightly structured songs is full of venom and surprising hooks. Influences exist without mimicry. Attack and release proves more powerful than unrelenting scree. Sing along at your own peril. Initial pressing of 820: 408 on blue; 412 on red. Includes full-size, double-sided insert with full color photo printed on recycled paper at Hemlock Printers.”

Jay Reatard - Singles 06-07 2LP (In The Red) SOLD OUT
“By now, Jay Reatard should be known to most everyone paying any attention to this whole indie/punk/pop/garage/shitgaze/blahblahblah. Former front guy for The Reatards and Lost Sounds and current solo sensation, the man is nothing if not prolific. After recording his debut solo LP, 2006's Blood Visions, Reatard released a slew of singles and EPs on labels across the globe; all were pressed in limited quantities and now fetch serious coin on eBay. In The Red is proud to release Singles 06-07-- a collection of all his out-of-print material, re-mastered by the Tard himself. It's finally possible to hear these gems in one straight shot, sounding better than ever, without flipping over a pile of seven inch platters. The CD version of Singles 06-07 includes a DVD showcasing some choice live performances of Reatard and his incredible live backing band, the Boston Chinks. The vinyl version is a double-LP housed in a beautiful gatefold sleeve. Watch for Reatard to be touring his ass off all summer long in support of this release.”

Aiden Baker - Exoskeleton Heart CD-R (Crucial Bliss) $7
“Following up his amazing Periodic disc that was issued through Crucial Bliss two years ago, acclaimed Toronto drone-guitarist Aidan Baker is back with Exoskeleton Heart, his newest entry into our ongoing Crucial Bliss series. And this 2-track, hour long excursion into deep feedback bliss is stunningly beautiful. Split into two halves, "Interior" and "Anterior", Baker once again taps into his visions of the bodycage using only his electric guitar, performed and recorded live; the result is an evocative feedback-heavy dronescape drifting with the gritty hum of the amplifier, layers of shimmering, chiming feedback, crushing distorted ambient dirge that borders on Sunn O)))-levels of sonic weight, and shafts of elegiac melody breaking through the stormclouds of Baker's cavernous rumbling like rays of sunlight. Aidan Baker is without question the North American counterpart to the Tuetonic guitar drones of Troum, and Exoskeleton Heart delivers some of his most massive, meditative, crushing, and beautiful subterranean drift yet. Hell, the final 10 minutes of "Anterior" is without questions one of the most beautiful things we have ever presented through this label, an angelic glacial melody that builds inexorably into a wall of blissed out fuzz a la something you'd expect from Aidan's dronesludge band Nadja. Essential. The disc comes in a full-color signature Crucial Bliss foldover sleeve with the disc affixed to a plastic hub on the interior of the sleeve, and has been pressed in a limited edition of 300 copies.”

Gnaw Their Tongues - An Epiphanic Vomiting Of Blood CD (Crucial Blast) $10
“Gnaw Their Tongues, an enigmatic project from the Netherlands that has wowed fans of messed-up heaviosity with the phenomenal Reeked, Pained and Shuddering CD that was released on Paradigms along with a host of super-limited CDR and cassette releases, is joining the Crucial Blast roster for the CD release of the new full length An Epiphanic Vomiting Of Blood, which was released as a limited edition vinyl release at the beginning of 2008 on Burning World Records. This undefinable mass of black amorphic horror is one of the most intense listens we've engaged in recently, a nihilistic pit of howling orchestral strings and blackened abstract doom, operatic female voices plunging into a fetid sewer of filth and blackness, equal parts avant black metal and splattered sludge and symphonic horror movie score. An overwhelming deathscape scrawled in jagged figures across pieces like "My body is not a vessel, nor a temple. It's a repulsive pile of sickness" or "Sawn asunder and left for the beasts", and flecked with moments of unbelievably crushing beauty that may surprise fans of Gnaw Their Tongue's previous work.”

Trees – Light Banes CD (Crucial Blast) $10
“The debut album from the Portland quartet Trees delivers two epic tracks of monolithic, blackened doom metal with a twisted, noise-damaged approach and a dank basement vibe. Trees craft glacial abstract riffs and rivers of ashen amplifier goo that fans of feedback-laden heaviosity will find highly satisfying, a kind of grinding, slow-motion black hole psychedelia that has a similar hypnotic death-ritual quality as artists like Bloody Panda and Khanate, but with their own unique trance state of swirling guitar textures, horrific jet black dronescapes and ghoulish, excoriating vocals. Features members of the PDX psych-sludge outfit Tecumseh (Important Records). This CD edition of the TREE's debut comes in a Stoughton printed 4-panel gatefold case.”

Goslings - Spaceheater/Perfect Interior CD (Crucial Blast) $10
“Spaceheater/Perfect Interior collects the first two EP's from husband-and-wife duo the GOSLINGS, originally released as short-run CD-Rs on low-fi/indie noise imprint Asaurus Records in 2003-2004. Working with a signature palette of melted, low-fi indie pop and muggy/smeared psych-drone ambience ground through overdriven amplifiers and shot out into pools of swirling basement shudder, The GOSLINGS adorn their gorgeous powermurk with eerie field recordings, ghostly subterranean vocals, and crackling cable buzz. If SUNN O))) had, in actuality, been a late-80's dreampop outfit on 4AD Records, or if cult shoegazers MEDICINE had ever collaborated with drone-axe sorcerers EARTH, the resulting fug may have been similar to this black-sugar avalanche. Simultaneously ethereal and blown-out, angelic strains of four-track mud-majesty shaking the walls of the ancient well it's buried beneath.”

Mash Mansum – Compilation Cassette (DNT) SOLD OUT
“The time is now! It's summer (fall) and here's the year-in-the-making (delays) now-wave tape compilation "Mash Mansum". Some of these bands have broken up since giving their songs, but believe me, all the bands on this tape are ALIVE. While Hunting Lodge wait patiently for the bus, Neck Hold attack each other with their drums. Shearing Pinx stay put in the forest. The Sticks try to work it out. Gay Beast approach middle-age. Deaf! Deaf! aren't so hungry anymore, and Twin Crystals umm..well they've been eaten alive. Pro manufactured tapes in green shell with the DNT logo on the tape. Artwork and screen printed covers by Danimal (of Gay Beast). Edition of 100.”

Shepherds – Bush Babies 7” (DNT) $6
"G. Lucas Crane and Jeremy Earl (participants in the Vanishing Voice, Non-Horse, Woods and Meneguar between them), after a brief warm-up, lock into tribal drumming and a ghost orchestra of reeds, drone, and delay. No vocals or anything that dicks up the purity of the concept at stake. Could have come out as some NYC-based art loft 12” (actually huffs the same Holland Tunnel fumes as imPLOG, methinks) and would qualify as really, really leftfield disco. Pretty goddamn rad l'il record. 500 copies, sold out, repress forthcoming." Dusted

Family Underground – Helium Rug 1-sided LP (DNT) $11
"The best thing to come out of Denmark other than pastries is are droners Family Underground (Phil would argue bacon too but I don't dig on swine). So the Family have a top one sided LP on DNT. 'Helium Rug' comes in a mouth watering silk screened sleeves. One side of the record has been sprayed with spray paint and the other has some way out psychedelic shit going off. They take it way beyond the drone with swirling harmonics and super freaky furry alien sounds. Pretty damn sweet..." Norman Records

Birch Control #1 summer 2008 Zine (Laura Kenins) $2
“A compilation of two insomnia-inspired comics about sleepwalkers and haunted gingerbread houses”

Stolen Minks – High Kicks CD (New Romance For Kids) $10
“Not a lot has changed with the latest release from Halifax's premier garage rock foursome---and that's wicked. The Minks still play a combination of sassy punk rock and fuzzed-out garage scorchers. Opener "Bring It" sets the scene on a slow groove with hipsters readying for the dance floor, then heads into modish territory as all members trade verses over a riveting two-chord progression. The remaining songs stay true to the fast and sweaty party-hearty vibe. With cleaner production amping up their joyous brand of rock 'n' roll, High Kicksstands as their present peak---hopefully to be exceeded by whatever comes next.” Andrew Robinson – The Coast

Omon Ra – The Halls of Medicine CD-R (Fixture Records) $7
“Omon Ra is the creative love child between the eternal minds of cosmorganisms Zachary Fairbrother and Daniel Miller. The aural specter of their Star Child has melted the being time of space and stared upon the pointless vibrations of THE DARK MATTER. With this knowledge they combine the desperate elements of the GODHEAD; mad science and magick are coalesced to mutate and transform vibration, noise, silence, and dance into alchemetic sound. They have no use (or interest) in measurements of any kind, time, space, matter, it is all the same and they know sound (silence) emulates and reverberates from the same source; whether it is from the most remote regions of space or the tiniest particle that resides on the outer most tip of your fingernail, it has arrived.”
